The Long-tailed or Crab-eating Macaque
is a grayish-brown monkey, measuring
about 103 cm from the head to the tip of
the very long, non-prominent whiskers
and a crest, and a callused rump.
Although they live in large troops,
Long-tailed Macaque do not have a very
advanced social structure.
Long-tailed Macaque live in primary and secondary
forests, including |

mangrove forests. Thay are
gregarious, living in groups of
10 to 100 indiciduals. The
forage for food in the daytime
on trees and on the groud. Thay
often come to rivers, streams,
or other water bodies ot eat
crustaceans, molluscs, crabs,
etc. Their diet includes mainy
fruits, leaves, and buds, as
well as as insects, frogs,
crabs, and crustaceans. breeding
occurs year-round, and gestation
in 160-170 days. Only one new
born per littee. A Long-tailed
Macaque's life span can be up to
40 years. |
